Autumn in Canada is all about the changing colours of the leaves, ushering out the old, and preparing for a fresh start in winter. So when considering a honeymoon destination at this time of year, you might as well ensure you’ll have ample opportunity to see the glorious changing colours. Here are some great ideas for a fall honeymoon.

1. Take a Romantic Train Ride for 2

Via Rail offers a breathtaking route from Montreal all the way to Halifax – you can book the sleeper class plus, which will give you all the amenities you’d need for a comfortable journey, including fine dining and wine tastings! This scenic route will allow ample time to take in the magnificent colours flashing past your window – for the very best views, head for the panoramic section of the train! And once you get off the train in Halifax, it’s highly recommended that you spend some time in here – it’s a great destination, with lots of things to see and do: performances of Shakespeare by the Sea, the Halifax Public Gardens, and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, to name just a few!

2. Head for Vancouver

A Vancouver honeymoon will never disappoint, no matter what time of year – autumn is no exception. There are some gorgeous hikes waiting for you in the famous Stanley Park. Or if you want something a little less physically taxing, then check out the picture-perfect fall foliage at the VanDusen Botanical Gardens – the fiery red of the Japanese Maples in front of their Meadow Garden are a must-see at this time of year! And if the weather turns cooler than you’d like, then head indoors for a break at the Vancouver Art Gallery where you can enjoy over 10,000 permanent works on display – it also happens to be home to one of the top cafes in town, so be sure to take some time out for one of their specialty coffees. When the evenings hit, consider a night out at the theater – many of Vancouver’s theater companies start their seasons at this time of year, and we all know that going to the theater after a great dinner out can make a great date night!

3. Go on a Road Trip

There are tons of fantastic routes to choose from in Canada if you’d like to take a honeymoon road trip. And if you go, don’t forget to stop off at local cafes for homemade apple or pumpkin pie – they’re in season right now!

One of the world’s best scenic drives is at Nova Scotia’s Cabot Trail. Located in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, you’ll see gorgeous sugar maple forests, aspen, and tamaracks. Plus the green of the evergreens serves as a striking contrast to the vibrant red, oranges and yellows of the others. Other maritime favourites are the Fundy Coastal Drive in New Brunswick, and the Confederation Trail on Prince Edward Island.

In Quebec, check out the drive through the stunning Laurentian Mountains.

If you’re in the west, then a drive through the Rocky Mountains is an obvious choice. Not only do you get to see the changing of the leaves, but you get hot springs, lakes, and snow-capped mountain tops to cap things off.

Autumn is a Gorgeous Time of Year to Explore Canada on Your Honeymoon

Autumn weddings are magical – and autumn honeymoons are even better! The more you dive into researching things to see and do, the more you see how many fantastic options are out there! A final tip: for the best colours, plan your trip to take place prior to Thanksgiving.
